The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) declared on Thursday that the area would cast more informed and thoughtful ballots in the general elections of 2023.

At a book launch in Kaduna, NEF convener Prof. Ango Abdullahi said that votes from the North would have a significant influence on the outcome of the elections the following year.

He also criticised President Muhammadu Buhari for claiming that Northerners still bear scars from a candidate they overwhelmingly supported twice (2015 and 2019).

The former vice-chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) stressed that Northerners are now wiser, and would make the best decision on the candidate to vote for in 2023.

He claimed that those in the North would not support a candidate who was unable to alleviate their current problems. The NEF has criticised the Buhari administration harshly.

A few weeks prior, the group had called for the president’s resignation due to his inability to address the unrest in the North.
